A Kong for Every Dog! Today- Kong Extreme

October 03, 2018 0
Monday we reviewed the Kong Senior and how it held up to our 10-year-old Ernest's chewing. Today we'll take a look at the Kong Extreme...and see if it can compete with Petey's powerful puppy teeth.

We have always loved Kongs because they keep our dogs happy, busy and help alleviate boredom when they have to be home alone. Now I've discovered that there's a different Kong for every stage and need.

Classic     Puppy     Extreme     Senior
As a Chewy Influencer, I got the opportunity to test and review one Kong for each dog, to see how that particular Kong worked out for them. Monday we shared our experience with the Kong Senior for Ernest, age 10.

Today we'll take a look at powerhouse 1-year-old Petey and the Kong Extreme.

Petey loves to chew, and destroys most toys within minutes. I knew he'd need something super durable to withstand his razor sharp teeth and aggressive chewing. Was the Kong Extreme the answer?

I stuffed the Kong with Kong Easy Treat and a couple crunchy treats. Petey jumped excitedly, and then got right to playing.

The Kong Extreme is made of the most durable rubber for determined chewers. And Petey was determined! After multiple uses, the Kong Extreme has actually held up to Petey's roughness. He has not managed to destroy it in the least despite plenty of enthusiastic play. We recommend Kong Extreme for all your power chewers.

Here is a chart to help you decide which Kong is best for your dog.

A Kong for Every Dog! Today--Kong Senior.

October 01, 2018 0
We've had dogs of all ages--seniors, puppies and in between--and our go-to toy has always been the Kong. It keeps them busy and helps alleviate boredom when they have to be home alone. Now I've discovered that there's a different Kong for every stage and need!

Classic     Puppy     Extreme     Senior
As a Chewy Influencer, I got the opportunity to test and review one Kong for each dog, to see how that particular Kong worked out for them. Ernest is 10, and pretty mellow. He's facing a lot of challenges of older dogs. So we chose the senior Kong for him. At one year old Petey is still basically a puppy, but he is rough on his toys and chews everything in sight, so we chose the Extreme Kong for him.

Today we'll take a look at Ernest and the Kong Senior.

Ernest may be a senior, but he can chew his toys with gusto. I was a little worried that the senior version, made with a rubber formula that is gentler to again teeth and joints, wouldn't hold up. When I received it I was pleased that it still felt sturdy and durable.

I stuffed the Kong with Kong Easy Treat because...well, because I'm lazy and it's the most convenient thing to squirt inside the toy. I added a couple crunchy treats.
Ernest was excited to get to playing!

After multiple uses, the Kong Senior has absolutely no damage or chunks missing. I feel confident giving it to Ernest for play time. And Ernest absolutely loves it! We recommend Kong Senior for all your older dogs.

Check back Wednesday to see our review of Kong Extreme!

Don't forget to pack the Kong.

June 27, 2018 0
We love summer vacations and getaways....especially when we can bring along our goldens, Ernest and Petey. After many trips where we've developed a list of items to help us all have a successful trip. Along with extra long leads, collapsible travel bowls, and their own comfy beds, one thing we always remember to pack is some toys, including a Kong.

Ernest with the new loot. He doesn't look that into posing today.

Recently we all went on a weekend trip to visit family. As a #ChewyInfluencer, I was lucky enough to be provided with one Kong and one tube of Kong Easy Treat to review. We brought that, along with another Kong, on our trip. Petey and Ernest loved playing with the Kongs while we were busy visiting, and when we we went out and left them in a strange new room. It gave them something fun to do while we were out.

Petey always has a smile for the camera. Especially when there are treats involved.

Here are some ways a Kong can help you and your dog when you travel:

1. In the hotel: Give your dog a stuffed KONG right before you leave them in the hotel room. This will keep them occupied and help eliminate the stress of your exit.
2. On the road: Long car rides can be stressful for your pup. Fill a KONG with their favorite kibble and Easy Treat™ to keep them busy and make them feel more at home.
3. Out and about: Bring a KONG, kibble and Easy Treat™ as a reward to keep them occupied and happy while you have down time in crowded places.

Don't you love how Ernest holds the Kong with his paw?

What to stuff your Kong with?
peanut butter
canned pumpkin
mashed banana
canned dog food
Kong Easy Treat

You can also mix in some dog kibble and treats, fruits and veggies.
Another fun idea is to freeze the stuffed Kong before giving to your dog!

Pete has his own technique for proper treat removal.

When done, be sure to soak Kong and use a bottle brush or toothbrush to clean the crevices inside. (Or wash on top rack of dishwasher.)

Check out Ernest and Petey enjoying their treats!

Next trip, be sure to pack a Kong and some Easy Treat in your dog's travel bag! (You can find a selection of Kong sizes and shapes, along with treats and Easy Treat for stuffing at Chewy.com.)

Christmas Gifts for Dogs and Pet Parents

December 21, 2015 0
Do you give your furry best friend a Christmas gift? If so, you're in good company. Surveys report that as many as 95% of pet parents buy their dog a gift for the holidays. My grandfather used to wrap dog biscuits and put them in the branches of the Christmas tree for his black lab, Duke. To this day I don't know how Duke didn't knock the whole tree over to get to them, but waited patiently as they were offered throughout the days surrounding Christmas.

We always get Kelly and Ike a toy. You might wonder why they would need a new toy when they already have this basket full of toys?

I don't know! But they love a new toy and the smell, feel and stimulation of something new and different to play with.

Kong Jumbler

When Chewy.com sent us this toy to review, it was a new one for my dogs. But I learned that it's already been my granddog Zeke's favorite. Be aware that strong chewers like Zeke may get through the softer exterior in order to get to the tennis ball inside. Zeke has gone through several, but will play with this toy for hours on end.

The Jumbler has handles for easy carrying, tugging and shaking, which is just what Zeke enjoys! It's definitely a winner!

Hero

Hero also sent us some toys to review. Do you have a strong chewer? These toys are tough, tough, tough! Our favorite is the retriever series tug toy.
Ike and Zeke have tugged at the durable, rip-resistant fabric and haven't made a single tear in the fabric, or a hole in the soft rubber ball! If it holds up to these two, it should hold up to your dogs!

And now, for pet parents I received a REALLY cool surprise. Something I'm really excited about, and something I think pet parents will find unique, fascinating and potentially very helpful.

Petzi Treat Cam

The Petzi treat cam allows you to check in with and interact with your pet from your smartphone or tablet. I'll be doing a thorough review of this after Christmas, and I can't wait to try it out! With this petcam, you can not only see your pet, you can also speak to him, snap pictures of him, and offer him small treats with the Petzi Treat Launcher. I've often wondered if hearing my voice while I'm away would cause my dog to feel more secure or more anxious, and I think combining the treat with my voice would help create a positive association for the dog.

Keep looking! I'll be posting my review soon!

How about you? What are you giving your pets, and pet-lovers, for Christmas this year?

Full Disclosure: I was provided with 1 Kong Jumbler, 2 Hero toys (pictures) and the Petzi Treat Cam in exchange for my honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion. Opinions expressed here are 100% my own. I only review products I'm interested in, and that I think my readers will enjoy.
