No more fleas and ticks! Petey's Seresto collar review #ChewyInfluencer

September 07, 2018 0
Let's see, Petey's at the door. What has he come home with?

Petey! Not the garden!

 Oh, Petey!

Yup, Petey's digging up flowers and bringing home who-knows-what again! Whatever Petey brings home with him, though, it shouldn't be fleas and ticks, right? So we tried out this Seresto collar from Chewy.com. All we had to do was put it on once, and it provides eight months of flea and tick protection. That's great, because we were always forgetting to apply our dog's topical treatment every month. If we missed just once, that's all it took to get those pesky bugs biting. We love that we can put this collar on the dogs and know they'll be protected month after month.

My dogs have had Lyme disease before and I haven't found alternate methods of tick control that have worked for me. Seresto is a good choice for those who opt to use a chemical treatment because the ingredients are released slowly in low concentrations from the collar to the dog. Active ingredients are Flumethrin and Imidacloprid. Best of all we've had no problem with fleas and ticks that cause discomfort and spread disease to our dogs.

So whenever Petey plays in the back yard or at the park, I know he may be naughty and come home with a few things he shouldn't...but he won't be coming home with fleas and ticks.

OH Petey! Not the neighbor's bikini!

Chewy Pharmacy delivers! #ChewyInfluencer

August 09, 2018 0
Dr. Ike answers your questions about Chewy Pharmacy

Dr. Ike is in.

Hi, Dr. Ike here to tell you about a new service offered by Chewy.com. Did you know that there is a new way to get those all-important medications you need to put the wag back in your tail? It's Chewy Pharmacy. As #ChewyInfluencers, we got to try it out. And it's so easy! Any questions?

Q- What medications are available through Chewy Pharmacy?

Ike: If you can bark it, they probably have it. There are hundreds of medications--heartworm medication, flea and tick treatments, pain medication, allergy relief, ear and eye care, wound treatment, and medication for many other health conditions. We ordered Interceptor heartworm treatment for Ernest and Petey.

Q- How do I order?

Chewy Pharmacy rocks!
Ike: First, go to Chewy Pharmacy and fill out a brief profile for your pet. We entered Ernest and Petey's names, breeds, ages and weights, and our veterinarian's name and phone number. Then we found the medication we needed and added it to our cart.

Q- Do I need a prescription?

Ike: Yes you still need a prescription for your medication. You can either mail it to Chewy, or have Chewy contact your veterinarian for you.

Q- How long will I have to wait?

Mail call!!
Ike: Our order was processed the same day, and shipped by Fed Ex the next day. We received it just 4 days after we ordered.

Q- Are there any downsides?

Ike: The only negative we saw was that the bubble envelope didn't fully protect the box of medication we ordered, and the blister packs were smooshed. However the medication remained intact, and it didn't effect their quality at all.

A little smooshed in the envelope, but the tablets were not damaged.

So there you have it, from Dr. Ike. Chewy Pharmacy is a great option for your pets' health care needs. Best of all, order their medication along with their food (and Ernest and Petey suggest adding a few treats and a toy or two!) and have it delivered right to your doorstep.

Have you tried Chewy Pharmacy? Do you have any more questions for Dr. Ike?

FULL DISCLOSURE: As Chewy Influencers, we were provided with one 6-pack of Interceptor chewables through Chewy Pharmacy in exchange for our honest review. This in no way influenced our review. Opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

A dog toy? No, a bird toy. #ChewyInfluencer

July 18, 2018 0
We review a lot of dog toys here, and occasionally a cat toy or two. But this BIRD TOY from Chewy.com was so adorable, we couldn't resist giving it a look. We don't have a bird to try this out at the moment, but based on our research about what birds like, the Super Bird Creations Foraging Bird toy is bright, interesting and definitely looks fun for birds!

Look at all those colors. Unlike dogs, birds see colors well. And the different shapes and textures and challenging and stimulating for birds. The wicker basket is filled with a beak-tastic variety of popsicle sticks, ice cream spoons, mini loofahs and more. Birds like to pluck, rip, tear, and chew these things apart. You can also hide treat inside to encourage foraging behavior and eliminate boredom.

The Super Bird Creations toy:
chewable
challenging
bird-safe
This looks like a wonderful toy to help keep your pet bird mentally stimulated and having fun. What do you think? Does this look like a fun bird toy? If you have a bird, do you think he/she would enjoy this toy? What part of this toy do you think would be his or her favorite? What kind of treats could you hide inside for foraging?

A Place to Carry Your Small Pet but not your Golden Retriever #ChewyInfluencer

A Dialogue in Which Ernest and Petey receive a Delivery

Scene: The doorbell rings. A package arrives from Chewy.com.  Since we're Chewy Influencers, Ernest and Petey know there is something exciting and usually delicious inside that box.

They proceed to jump and dig their toenails into my bare feet as I open the box.

Ernest: What is this green thing Chewy mailed us? It doesn't smell like food.

Petey: Nope. I licked it. Yuck.

Ernest: Mom's unzipping it. It looks like a carrier of some sort. But I'll never fit in there. Why don't you try it, Petey? You're younger and smaller.

Petey: I'm not going to try it, it's not even big enough for that cat next door. You're always trying to get me in trouble. I'm telling Mom.

Ernest: Never mind. So it appears that this is the Kaytee Come Along Pet Carrier. It comes in three sizes: one is small enough for rats. The medium is for a guinea pig. And what's in this large one here? Look at the way the door flap zips right open. Hey, those are bunnies in there!

Pete: Yup, I like bunnies. Look how nice they fit in there. They seem awfully cozy inside their carrier.

Pete: Maybe they'd like to come out and play.

Ernest: Hey Petey! You put the brown one back!

Ernest: That's better. Now let's see what we have here. Nice fabric. Sturdy nylon handle.

Petey: If I could read I'd know a little more about this thing, but it doesn't look like much fun for me.

Ernest: It's not supposed to be. Not everything is for us.

Petey: oh.

Ernest: That's a big mesh window on the side. Nice ventilation.

Petey: You and your big words. I just know that those bunnies have a good view.

Ernest: I think anyone who has a rabbit, guinea pig or even a bird could use this carrier. We give this carrier 4 Paws up! That means it's good. Check it out at Chewy.com and it'll be on your doorstep in just two days or so. Tell them Ernest and Petey sent you.

Petey: And speaking of sending things, next time I hope we get bully sticks.

Ernest: Or biscuits! Oh well, enough of this, let's go play.

Petey: Tag! You're it!

Don't forget to pack the Kong.

June 27, 2018 0
We love summer vacations and getaways....especially when we can bring along our goldens, Ernest and Petey. After many trips where we've developed a list of items to help us all have a successful trip. Along with extra long leads, collapsible travel bowls, and their own comfy beds, one thing we always remember to pack is some toys, including a Kong.

Ernest with the new loot. He doesn't look that into posing today.

Recently we all went on a weekend trip to visit family. As a #ChewyInfluencer, I was lucky enough to be provided with one Kong and one tube of Kong Easy Treat to review. We brought that, along with another Kong, on our trip. Petey and Ernest loved playing with the Kongs while we were busy visiting, and when we we went out and left them in a strange new room. It gave them something fun to do while we were out.

Petey always has a smile for the camera. Especially when there are treats involved.

Here are some ways a Kong can help you and your dog when you travel:

1. In the hotel: Give your dog a stuffed KONG right before you leave them in the hotel room. This will keep them occupied and help eliminate the stress of your exit.
2. On the road: Long car rides can be stressful for your pup. Fill a KONG with their favorite kibble and Easy Treat™ to keep them busy and make them feel more at home.
3. Out and about: Bring a KONG, kibble and Easy Treat™ as a reward to keep them occupied and happy while you have down time in crowded places.

Don't you love how Ernest holds the Kong with his paw?

What to stuff your Kong with?
peanut butter
canned pumpkin
mashed banana
canned dog food
Kong Easy Treat

You can also mix in some dog kibble and treats, fruits and veggies.
Another fun idea is to freeze the stuffed Kong before giving to your dog!

Pete has his own technique for proper treat removal.

When done, be sure to soak Kong and use a bottle brush or toothbrush to clean the crevices inside. (Or wash on top rack of dishwasher.)

Check out Ernest and Petey enjoying their treats!

Next trip, be sure to pack a Kong and some Easy Treat in your dog's travel bag! (You can find a selection of Kong sizes and shapes, along with treats and Easy Treat for stuffing at Chewy.com.)

Bob-a-lot of fun! A treat dispensing toy for your dog.

May 11, 2018 0
We have so much fun as #ChewyInfluencer, and this time we got to review a really great toy! Petey had so much fun with this. If you're looking for a toy for your dog that is a lot of fun and keeps him moving and active this is it! The Starmark Treat Dispensing Bob-a-lot!

Think Weeble that spits out treats. If your dog is food motivated, or just enjoys a puzzle, he's going to love this toy. Just unscrew the top, fill with treats, open the little door at the bottom and go! We tested this toy with Pete. He bopped it all over with his nose and paw. Loved it and got every bit of kibble out and had a bob-a-lot of fun!

It's great for slow feeding and reducing boredom. You can even customize the difficulty level. This toy is sturdy too. Pete has carried it around in his mouth, batted at it, dropped it and chewed on it and it holds up!

Next we let Ernest have a turn.

Oh well, some dogs just don't know how to have fun.

Check out the Bob-a-lot on Chewy.com. They'll ship it off to you and your dog can be playing with it in a matter of days!

Healthy Treats for Dogs #ChewyInfluencer

January 17, 2018 0
Top Ten about Nature's Variety Instinct Grain Free oven-baked dog biscuits:

10. Made in the USA
9. Natural
8. Grain free

7. Gluten free
6. No added sugar
5. Chicken meal is the first ingredient

4. Includes chickpeas, cranberries, pumpkinseeds and ground flaxseed
3. 25 calories a bisquit (medium sized biscuit)
2. crunchy!

1. My dogs love them.
Even these two muddy dogs coming inside from playing want their treats!

I found one surprising fact: I noticed "montmorillonite clay" on the ingredient list and I thought What is clay doing in my dog's food? That doesn't sound good. When I looked it up, however, I found that montmorillonite clay facilitates high-quality pet foods to remain free of harmful chemicals. The clay acts as a detoxifier. It can strengthen bones and joints, boost your pet's immune system, and is gaining popularity with veterinarians. So it's always good to do a little research if you an unfamiliar with an ingredient.

Chewy.com sent us a bag to try out and review and the dogs love them! These treats also come in Rabbit and apples, or Duck and sweet potatoes.

My dogs' favorite toy.

January 10, 2018 0
My dogs chew.
A lot.
And to keep Petey from chewing this sneakers, slippers, rugs, dish towels and anything else not nailed down, I like to keep him stocked in chew toys.

Recently Chewy.com invited us to review the Benebone. We love being Chewy Influencers because we get to sample lots of good toys. So we got the Benebone, and my dogs haven't stopped chewing on it since!

I got it with Petey in mind, thinking older Ernest wouldn't be that interested. But he loves it too!

We got the jumbo size, bacon flavor. It also comes in peanut butter and rotisserie chicken flavor. The wishbone shape is just right for grasping with paws. And it really doesn't matter which end ends up in their mouth, or in both mouths!!

The Benebone is made of food-grade nylon and real bacon! So far, after constant chewing pretty much 24/7 by both dogs, the bone is still in tact. That is amazing!

As always, monitor your dog when chewing. Ernest and Petey didn't get any chunks off this yet, but if your dog does, you are advised to take the toy away. The toy is on the pricier side, but it is worth it since it may last longer than a few days (or minutes!).  Petey and Ernest definitely recommend the Benebone for strong chewers of all sizes and life stages.

Canine Cancer Survivor Becomes Therapy Dog

January 03, 2018 0
Mom, tell me again the story about how you chose me.
Ernest, we chose you because you needed us, and we needed you.

I'm so excited that Ernest's adoption story is shared on Chewy.com's Pet Stories. I've been a Chewy Influencer for years, reviewing and blogging about various products, so I was delighted to contribute this story to their site as well.

Canine Cancer Survivor Becomes Therapy Dog to Man With Alzheimer’s

This post is by Chewy Influencer Peggy Frezon.
Our first senior dog rescue was 11 years old when we adopted him. I shook my head and told my husband, “He’ll break our hearts.”

My husband looked at me and said, “But he needs us.”

So, we adopted the sad, skin-and-bones Golden Retriever, named him Brooks, and fell in love with him. And sure enough, he broke our hearts—but not before filling them with love and joy.

Brooks helped us find our mission—to give a loving home to abandoned senior Goldens. We’ve loved and lost a few. Then this May, our rescue group contacted us about a 9-year-old Golden who lived in deplorable conditions. Did we want him? We’d just lost two senior dogs. Could we open our hearts up to such pain again?

The answer was clear.
See the rest of the story at Canine Cancer Survivor....

In addition to publishing the story, Chewy.com sent Ernest a box of goodies, and they also sent Peppertree  Rescue, the amazing rescue group from which we adopted Ernest, Brooks, and our other dogs, a big box of two dog beds, toys, Kongs, and treats to share with foster dogs in their care. Here's what they got:

Thank you to Chewy.com for all they do to share stories of our love for our pets, and for recognizing the great rescue groups that help make families complete. Thank you Peppertree for helping us find Ernest, who has filled our home with so much love.
P.S. He's now 3 months cancer free!
